FIRESIDE TREATMENT
In the wake of increasing energy costs, biomass energy production sprout out as an alternative to diesel/MFO, to burn organic by-products like empty fruit bunch (EFB), masocarp, husk, fibre etc. These by-products normally consist of scum, traces of oil, fatty acid, rosin and mineral. Upon combustion, these elements melt, vaporize and condense in low temperature zones like roof tubes, dust collectors and boiler stacks to form an adhesive paste. Ash particles generated during the combustion will stick, agglomerate and eventually pollute the surrounding upper furnace area and in more severe cases, block the air passage as well.
These adhesive particles would later harden and make removal difficult. Eventually, corrosion and erosion would result as these deposits are highly corrosive to any metal surface that they come into contact with. Cleaning is extremely difficult and costly and must be avoided.
